It's a shame that automatic programming isn't more like automatic writing. I would love to know what an application programmed by my subconscious would look like. I bet it would have GOTOs, lots of them. The repressed always returns.
Possible idea for a science fiction story: a world where the act of programming is considered to be inspired by the gods. There could even be "code literalists" who oppose any refactoring of legacy applications for religious reasons.
And what about a sect of programmers/mystics? Computer code is very well suited to kabbalistic interpretation, I think. I would go as far as saying that, for most Perl programs, it is the only possible one...
